Minutes for May 19, 2010 Selectmen’s Meeting

The Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

Selectmen Meeting Minutes May 12, 2010.  Approved 5-0.

  • Email from Fire Chief Bruce Mullen – Re:  Potential Savings a home owner may see if the Town obtains a lower ISO rating

Selectman Libby reported that the Selectmen held interviews on Monday, May 17 and a Candidate’s night was held on Tuesday, May 18th.  Selectman Libby is reviewing the budget comparing to last year at this time.
Selectmen Collomy and Pulsoni also reported they attended the interview on Monday night and participated in the Candidate’s night event.

Selectman Burns reported that he attended a Twelve Town Meeting on Monday night.  He stated the Referendum to repeal the tax bill that was passed last fall was discussed.  Selectman Burns urged voters to become familiar with the items that will be taxed.  Selectman Burns reported that the State still wants to reduce the PSAP’s from 26 down to 15 – 17.  Sanford is opening a new PSAP center and will be holding an open house soon.  

Selectman Harmon reported that she will be calling a candidate for the position of Selectmen’s Assistant and hopefully that will work out.  Selectman Harmon stated that she had a phone call from an individual who is interested in joining the Comprehensive Plan Committee.  The next meeting of the Comprehensive Plan Committee is June 9th at 6:15 p.m. here at the Town Office.

Antenna at Buxton Center – No change

Designated Smoking Areas – Done

Public Works Garage Floor Sealing – Followed up last week, no change.

Sick Bank Policy – Have not had a chance to review.

  • New Business
Selectman Harmon read the non-budgetary items that are on the Warrant.  Secret ballot voting will take place at the Buxton Town Hall on June 8th from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Selectman Harmon informed the public that their long time Assistant, Dianne Senechal will be retiring on May 21.  She stated that Dianne has been a tremendous asset to the Board and the Town and will be missed by all.

Selectman Collomy reported that the bailer at the Transfer Station blew a gasket and needs to be repaired or replaced depending on the nature of the damage.  If it needs to be replaced it could cost around $38,000.




  • Executive Orders
E.O.091005014 – An order to approve 40 hours of vacation time to be in the form of pay for Fred Farnham.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.091005015 – An order to allow Fred Farnham to ‘carry forward’ 90.8 hours of vacation time to be used before August 16, 2010.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.091005016 – An order to approve an Abatement for Real Estate taxes in the amount of $189.03 for [Map 8, Lot 40A-1].  Approved 5-0.

E.O.091005017 – An order to adopt the amended Smoking Policy effective May 19, 2010.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.091005018 – An order to approve a Poverty Abatement for Case No. PA09-010.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.091005019 – An order to approve the hire of Kyle Durkin for the position of camera operator effective May 19, 2010 at a pay rate of $13.27 per hour.  Approved 5-0.

  • Other Business
There will be a softball game to benefit ‘Keep The Heat On’ at Carroll Park in Groveville on Sunday, June 6.  Sign up starts at 10:00 a.m.  There is a $5 donation to participate.  Skip’s will be playing against the Buxton Tavern.  There will also be a barbeque during the event.



  • Public Comments and Questions
Dianne Senechal, Selectmen’s Assistant, stated that she was retiring from her position as the Selectmen’s Assistant on May 21 and she wanted to let the public know how much she had enjoyed the position.  It has been an extreme pleasure and honor to help the residents of Buxton.  She thanked each Selectman for all she had learned from them.  

Dennis Santolucito stated that he had attended a meeting where the repeal of the Tax Bill was discussed.  He urged voters to vote ‘yes’ to repeal.  Dennis did not feel that the legislation was well thought out and it would hurt small businesses.

Motion made and seconded to adjourn the Meeting at 7:40 p.m.  Approved 5-0.
